YOUNG SOCIALIST SCHOLARSHIP FUND NEEDS YOUR HELP
The Young Democratic Socialists (YDS), the youth arm of DSA is holding its summer conference at a retreat center. This is an important part of the YDS/DSA joint campaign to increase youth participation in DSA while building a stronger youth organization.

Because the future of our movement lies in recruiting a new generation, not only to our socialist vision but also to the project of building an organized socialist presence in the United States, conferences such as this one are among the most important events that we organize. The life-long bonds between comrades that are often forged at these conferences are critically important to building our organization. Of course the conference is much more than a networking event, it sets an Activist Agenda that focuses our youth and campus activity for the coming year.

The problem with retreat centers is that the cost becomes a significant barrier to participation. To offset that obstacle the DSA Fund has established a special scholarship fund and is accepting tax-deductible contributions for the sole purpose of increasing youth participation in this important gathering. The economic crisis is having a significant impact on students; they face reductions in assistance programs, increased tuition costs and a shortage of summer jobs. That means it is even harder for students and young people to lay out the funds for travel, room and board for this conference.

We understand that these times are hard on everyone, which is why we value the on-line support the Scholarship Fund receives. The conference opens on July 30 so we don't have much time left. The Scholarship Fund needs support now in order to generate the maximum attendance at the conference. After all, even young people need a certain amount of time to plan their travel arrangements. Your help is vital. We need to raise at least $3000 in order to meet the needs of conference participants.

A three-day scholarship is $175.
A two-day scholarship is $125.
A one-day scholarship is $60.
